About the German language

The German language is a West Germanic language, most widely spoken in Central European countries. Around 95 million people speak German as a first language, three-quarters of whom live in Germany. German is the second most widely spoken Germanic language after English. It is an official language of German, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein.
