Zazaki is spoken by around 2 to 4 million people in eastern Turkey, although estimates may range up to 6 million. Zazaki is an Iranian language, and part of the wider Indo-European language family. It is similar to the Kurdish language, and Zazaki speakers often consider themselves to be Kurdish.
Zazaki is written using the Latin alphabet. Zazaki is a threatened language with many younger Zazas speaking little Zazaki. A large number of Zazas live outside of Turkey, due to continuing ethnic conflicts in eastern Turkey. The diaspora have been active in promoting and publishing materials in Zazaki, reviving interest in the language.
