Italian spelling games

Italian spelling revision games on this page were developed for children and adult students, and provide a fun and easy means of revising the Italian that you have already studied. They may also function as a way of furthering your Italian reading comprehension skills. Italian nouns are either masculine or feminine, and in these games you will identify the gender by choosing the associated definite article. Singular masculine nouns end in -o and feminine nouns end in -a. Nouns that end in -e can be either, so pay attention to the article used to determine the gender of the noun when the noun ends in -e. The feminine article is 'la' in the singular. The masculine definite article is commonly ‘il’, but ‘lo’ is used for words beginning with z, ps, y, and with s when a consonant is the next letter. If the word begins with a vowel, ‘l’ is used in place of ‘il’. Free to use as a classroom exercise or as a home study resource.
