About the Korean language:

Most Korean speakers live in South Korea, North Korea, and the surrounding regions in China and Russia. However, Korean-speaking communities are also found in far-flung parts of Russia and Central Asia. There are around 77 million native Korean speakers. It is the official language of North Korea and South Korea, although the standardized form in each of these countries varies. Korean is a recognized minority language in regions in Russia and China. Korean, is a language isolate, the only member of the Koreanic language family. Korean does share grammatical similarities with Japanese, and many words from Chinese have been incorporated into Korean. The Korean Hangul alphabet was introduced in the 15th century. For the next few centuries, Classical Chinese script remained the preferred script amongst the educated elite, who consider Hangul too simple. With the growth of Korean national consciousness in the late 19th century, Hangul replaced the previously favored Classical Chinese script for official and literary purposes.
