Brazil borders every country in South America except Chile and Ecuador. Brazil is the fifth most populous country in the world and home to one third of all South Americans. Most of the population live along the southeast coastal regions. Brazil has a varied landscape, and topographical features include mountains, wetlands, plateaus, savannah and river drainage systems. Most of the Amazon River basin, the world's largest river basin, lies within Brazilian territory. This river basin is the location of the Amazon rainforest, which is the world's largest. Vast highland regions include the Guiana Highlands in the north and the Central Highlands to the center and southeast. The Pantanal is the largest contiguous wetlands region in the world.
