Why use games for learning or teaching languages?
Using visual images or animations increases students interest and fortifies meaning and association in a manner in which words alone cannot. Near the end of class, tired students often end up blankly staring at textbooks without absorbing any of the materials. Multiple-choice games can encourage the continuation of active learning. Visual images also aid when students are learning a new language and are not entirely comfortable with the language of instruction. There are different learner types, with some students learning better through seeing things (visual learning), and some through listening (auditory learning). Using both auditory and visual learning techniques can doubly reinforce learning.
